Over the years, many beauty products have danced through my life. My affairs with some products have been more of a lusty fling, others like a dirty little secret and then there are those that have stood the test of time and I consider myself to be in a long term relationship with. Dry Shampoo and mascara with primer and a comb applicator wand (that’s key) are two of those long termers.

Before I was an editor, I was a beauty editor and spent 3 years lathering, brushing, rubbing and dabbing products all over my body. As a beauty editor, every day piles of new and lush products were delivered to my desk – it was like beauty porn and it was my job to try everything. As a result of these years as a beauty gigolo, I ended up with bouts of pimples from using creams that were wrong for my skin type, my nails were wrecked and I encountered some very wrong hair days from loading my hair with so much goop. But gosh was it fun.

Leaving the beauty editor seat was tough, but ultimately a great thing for my skin, hair, body and nails because it allowed me to define which products actually work for me. Beauty is really a lot like dating – you try on and experiment with a range of different products, until you meet “The Ones” – the products that conceal your blotchy face when you’ve been crying, make you feel confident when you’re feeling blah and while they wont cook you dinner and cuddle you to sleep, they will always remain by your side (or in your bathroom cabinet) and make you feel fabulous. That’s what the Australian Beauty Awards are all about – helping you find your “Ones”.
